Keeping Your Club Patio Warm (Without Blowing a Fuse)
If you run a nightclub patio, you know the struggle. It’s either raining, freezing, or both—and your guests aren’t going to stick around if they’re shivering. Most heaters just try to warm up the air, but on a windy night, that heat just blows away. That’s why we use shortwave infrared. It doesn’t mess with the air; it beams heat directly onto people. The second you flip the switch, your guests feel it. Period.
The Gear
Since this is outdoors, “weather-resistant” isn’t enough. We use IP65-rated housings because rain and humidity love to kill electronics. Inside, we stick with quartz or carbon fiber elements. They can take the heat without cracking under pressure. We also don’t cut corners on the wiring. We use heavy-duty shielded cables to make sure the heaters don’t interfere with your sound system or other club gear.
Making it “Smart”
Nobody wants to run around flipping twenty different switches. We hook everything up to a smart system or your building’s main controls via WiFi or Zigbee. But here’s the tricky part: you can’t just slam the power on for twenty high-wattage heaters at once. If you do, you’re going to trip the breaker and leave everyone in the dark. To fix this, we set up a “soft start.” The heaters kick in in waves over about five to ten seconds. It’s a small detail, but it keeps your electrical panel from screaming.
The Reality Check
Adding smart tech sounds great, but it adds some wrinkles. You need a rock-solid network out on the patio. If your WiFi glitches, your automation goes with it. That’s why we always put in manual override switches. If the server crashes, your staff can still get the heat running manually. One last thing: these things put out a lot of heat. If you mount them too low, you’re going to roast the guests sitting right underneath. Getting the height exactly right is the difference between a cozy vibe and a lawsuit.
